Emerald Shiner Clouser
Brought to you again by Madcatter!!!
A good searching pattern for Erie steelhead fished as a streamer in larger pools. Also bust ass fly for smallmouth and stripers near the dams of the Ohio river. Many ways and colors to make these flies here's mine.
STEP 1
Step 1: This is a larger hook than you usually use for this fly. First tie in a dumbbell eye about 2/3 to 3/4 up the shank from the bend. Make sure it is secure.
STEP 2
Step 2: Tie in four to six long strands of purple crystal flash behind the eyes.
STEP 3
Step 3: Lift the strands up and then lay all the ends back towards the hook bend. Tie them all down.
STEP 4
Step 4: Start with a small amount of blue buck tail. After cutting either use a hair stacker or just pull out all the longer pieces so the lengths are about the same.
STEP 5
Step 5: With the bobbin in front of the dumbbells, tie in the buck tail under the eyes with three good, tight wraps.
STEP 6
Step 6: Cut a piece of purple buck tail. Apply this piece in the same manner as step 5. Tie the purple buck tail in.
STEP 7
Step 7: Move the bobbin behind the dumbbells (eyes) and tie in some gray buck tail. Wrap the buck tail three times.
STEP 8
After you have wrapped the gray buck tail three times, pull it tight until it looks something like this.
STEP 9
Step 9: Lay the gray buck tail over the dumbbell eyes, and wrap it a few times. Cut off all of the butt ends trying to keep a taper so it forms a head.
STEP 10
Wrap a good head and whip finish the fly. Apply some head cement. Bass seem to like this fly the bigger the eyes get.
